As part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physics, the newly established Faculty of Mathematics and Physics brings together the established faculties of Mathematics and Physics to live up to the faculty strategy “Towards An Optimized And Connected Future”. As a new faculty, we strive to provide high quality, student-centred instruction, driven by the integration of our teaching and research activities. The unique student experience in Surrey includes a focus on student placements and professional training opportunities.
Physics in Surrey has a strong research record, including the largest nuclear physics research group in the UK, a commitment to multidisciplinary research such as a Leverhulme funded center for quantum biology and an astronomy group studying the formation and evolution of our galaxy. Our photonics group can trace its origins back to the invention of some of the first lasers through our work on strained semiconductors.
Our mathematical research spans both pure and applied areas of mathematics and includes one of the largest research groups in nonlinear mathematics. Our data science and dynamics research employs a range of mathematical techniques used to identify system properties and make predictions using data and mathematical models.
This is an exciting time to be joining the University of Surrey at a time of investment in the school and the development of a new university and faculty strategy for the next 5 years. You will be able to shape and develop the school and play your part in influencing the continued growth and success of the school.

We are looking for;
An experienced academic leader from a related discipline who can demonstrate the ability to think and act strategically and inspire others. A person who can demonstrate experience in establishing new departments or schools or has brought relevant disciplines together in new ways.
