History OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women’s basketball team won its second straight game, defeating Friends University 60-45 at Wilson Field House. The win ended OU’s five-game losing streak against the Falcons.

Ottawa led Friends 9-4 in the first quarter with 4:33 to go. The Falcons responded by ending the quarter on a 6-2 run, and the Braves took an 11-10 lead in the second quarter.

The OU defense held Friends at six points in the second quarter. Ottawa opened the quarter with a 12-2 run and took a 23-12 lead over Friends with a 3-point field goal from Cierra Brown. The Falcons scored the next four points, cutting OU’s lead to 23-16. Ottawa would get the last basket of the half to put a double-digit lead in the dressing room. Cierra Brown found an open Maria Moore on the wing for three and OU led 26-16 at halftime.

Two baskets from Alyssa Guzman and one from Nicole Brown gave OU a 32-16 lead in the first 53 seconds of the second half. Friends didn’t go away, however, cutting the Brave lead to 35-27 with 4:22 in the third.

Baskets from Cierra Brown and Nicole Brown increased the OU lead to 39-27. The Falcons built the OU lead again and with 41 seconds on the clock, Ottawa’s lead was cut to eight. The Braves were able to extend their lead in the final seconds of the third by double digits. Jayla Johnson was fouled while attacking the basket. She made both free throws and gave OU a 41-31 lead early in the fourth.

Everything was OU in the fourth quarter. By the 1:42 mark, the Ottawa defense had held the Falcons to eight points in the last quarter of the game. A Janiyah Hendricks basket gave the Braves a 60-39 lead. Ottawa was able to empty his bench and OU took the 60-45 win.

Ottawa shot 42.1 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line. Cierra Brown led OU with 16 points. Nicole Brown earned her ninth double-double. She scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Janiyah Hendricks led the Braves with three assists. who’s next
Ottawa (14-9, 10-7) returns in the team’s Play4Kay game on Saturday, Feb. 4. The OU will house Kansas Wesleyan University in the Wilson Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m
