‘Ghosts’ Star Brandon Scott Jones Breaks Down Holiday Romance Revelations

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Ghosts Season 2, Episodes 9 & 10, “The Christmas Spirit” Part One & Two.]

ghosts served its first holiday episode, and as promised, it was a spirited affair for the living and spirits of Woodstone.

As several romantic storylines unfolded, one had the sweetest ending of all when Brandon Scott Jones’ Isaac finally shared a kiss with redcoat friend Nigel (John Hartman). Isaac was reluctant for reasons revealed in the episode and bore hundreds of years of guilt regarding his wife. He believed that she resented him for ruining her life given his sexuality, and therefore he was reluctant to deepen his relationship with Nigel.

Ultimately, Sasappis (Román Zaragoza) refutes this theory Isaac had about his wife, recalling that when he was on his deathbed she came to visit and made sure he changed into his uniform before he died. The relief and understanding that Isaac’s wife took care of him despite their imperfect marriage gives him reassurance that it’s okay to be happy with Nigel now.

Before the episode ends, the two are able to share a celebratory kiss, to which Jones says, “It’s nice to have an odd story at the heart of a Christmas special.” Regarding Isaac and Nigel, the actor says, “It feels right that a moment like Christmas or under the mistletoe is what would give Isaac a chance to take a next step. He’s been holding his relationship back so much that he needs that, so it feels like a Christmas miracle.”

On what the happy couple can expect when the show returns in the New Year, Jones teases, “They’ve settled into something that’s a little more routine and a little more recognizable to a TV audience, like a traditional TV romance. But I think that still brings its challenges. It still feels very much like first love, with all the little nooks and crannies.”

Even exploring challenges, the actor says things will “brighten up a bit.” He even reveals that “Nigel will discover a secret sometime during the season that will actually give him some power, too.” Could this secret have anything to do with Trevor (Asher Grodman) and Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky)?

After a disappointing exit with Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) sister Bela (Punam Patel), Trevor’s romantic frustration and one thing leads to another, he and Hetty end the episode with a passionate kiss. Could the proud spirits strike a secret deal? Only time can tell.

And if you were shocked by the surprising connection, you’re not alone. “We were all shocked [it when we read] the side that was really fun,” says Jones of the cast’s reaction to Trevor and Hetty. “None of us saw that coming, but when you look back at the season you can kind of see all the little ways they pointed out, which is really interesting.”

“There’s definitely a lot of romance in the air on the show,” predicts Jones. “Sasappis will eventually have a partner. And I also know that Thor (Devan Chandler Long) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) will also take another step in their relationship. You’ll definitely see right away that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, many of us ghosts are in relationships.”

We’ll be on the lookout for when these spirits ring in the new year. Until then, let us know what you think of the surprise holiday special in the comments below.
