Kelly Clarkson Gets Real About How She And Brandon Blackstock Are Handling The Holidays Post-Divorce

After the ugly two years of Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstocks Divorce, which was finalized in March, the singer opened up about one of the main realities coming with the holiday season now. The former couple have two children together — 8-year-old River Rose and 6-year-old Remington — and with the holiday season in full swing, the singer opened up about how she and her ex have been navigating the post-divorce holidays.
Clarkson spoke to Jewel, who has been divorced for seven years, about what vacations they get with the kids and what vacations their exes get. Explaining how she’s sharing the holidays with her Blackstock, the talk show host went on to say The Kelly Clarkson Show that her ex gets them for Thanksgiving and she gets them for Christmas:
My ex has my kids every Thanksgiving too. It’s not my favorite vacation and it’s for his family, so I thought, ‘Cool’.
Jewel revealed how she divides the holidays the same way. As the singer/actress explained her custody agreement, Clarkson chimed in, noting the difficulties of not seeing her children every holiday. However, she also spoke about the silver lining:
It was weird for me and I know you’ve been divorced for a while, it’s weird because you always had a kid there and suddenly you’re alone. First it’s weird, and then you’re kinda like ‘Ah, ok’ [puts her arms behind her head like she’s relaxing], I can do things and it’s kind of incredible. You get some time for me.
While Clarkson appreciates the time I have now, she also spoke about how difficult it was to make the adjustment, saying:
I was a mess at first, but now I’m like, ‘It’s great.’ And absence makes the heart beat faster.
During the year, as per the couple’s divorce settlement, the children will live full-time with Clarkson in Los Angeles. They also visit their father in Montana for a weekend every month.
Amid years of legal battles, Clarkson took a season off from The voice and spent the summer in Montana establish a routine with Blackstock. (That Montana property was a major point of contention during their divorce.) However, with Blackstock stays in Montana after moving into a new bachelor padthe “Stronger” singer headed north for the season so her kids could spend time with both parents without having to travel as much.
After last summer, Clarkson returned to Los Angeles film their revamped talk showwho took the time slot from The Ellen DeGeneres Show on the TV program 2022. She will return too The voice on the TV program 2023.
While the divorce was ugly and Kelly Clarkson is still in litigation with Blackstock’s family, especially his dad Narvel Blackstock, it sounds like the arrangement the two struck over the holidays is working out well for them. You’d think Clarkson has some fun things planned for her brood, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she posts about them sometime in the coming week.
