Knights win 12 events, get best of St. Ben’s

Story Links NORTHFIELD, Minnesota – The Carleton College women’s swim and dive team won 12 of 16 events as the Knights secured a 185-115 dual meeting triumph over the College of Saint Benedict.

“What an incredible clash between the two Carleton teams today,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “I couldn’t be more impressed with the combined effort and energy both Carleton teams put in and gave today. Coming to this meeting we knew we were going to have two very competitive programs in front of us and to have any chance of winning we would need every team member to contribute. The Carleton teams definitely rose to the challenge and delivered at every event.”

Maddie Damberg-Ott (Sr./London, UK/Channing School), Elizabeth Chatard (Sun./San Anselmo, California/Sir Francis Drake), Isabelle Riley (Sun./Singapore/Singapore American School) and Zoe Morton (Fy. /Chicago, Illinois/Univ. of Chicago Laboratory School) got the Knights off to a strong start with a win in the 200-meter medley relay. They achieved a winning time of 1:53.61.

Stephanie Baranov (Fy./Streamwood, Illinois/Hoffman Estates) followed with a win (19:15.84) in the 1650 meter freestyle.

Julia Luljak (Sr./Baltimore, Md./Park School), Raine Bernhard (Sr./Champaign, Illinois/University) and Jenna Drummond (Sun./East Greenbush, NY/Emma Willard) kept the momentum going with the Knights as they went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:04.39, 2:06.92 and 2:07.78.

Luljak and Chatard finished 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:10.88 and 1:11.26. Caroline Crampton (Sun./Plymouth, Mass./Sturgis) and Riley followed by taking the two set fastest times in the 200-yard butterfly after hitting the wall at 2:21.35 and 2:24.46.

Brenna Russell (Jr./Andover, Minn./Andover) won the 1-meter vaulting competition with a score of 254.70, just 0.3 points from an NCAA qualifying score. She was also first on the 3m board with 213.05.

After the first jump break, Morton added a 100-yard freestyle win with a time of 55.98. Damberg-Ott was then first on the wall in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:12.47 by a six-second margin.

Chatard won the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:34.35. Luljak and Crampton followed with a 1-2 score in the 500-yard freestyle, with the former hitting the wall in 5:35.46 and the latter in 5:38.86.

Saturday’s meet ended in victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Bernhard, Sammi Sheridan (Jr./Madison, Wis./Memorial), Lily Wong (Fy./Madison, Wis./Madison West) and Morton posted a time of 1:43.05.

Next for the knights
Carleton is hosting St Olaf College for a senior day double meet at Thorpe Pool. The competition starts on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00 p.m.
