Carl Froch Reacts To Liam’s Win Over Eubank Jr, Wants Him To Face Golovkin

Carl Froch was impressed by a fourth-round KO win over Liam Smith as he tipped the odds of defeating favorite Chris Eubank Jr in their heated rivalry at the AO Arena in Manchester, England on Saturday night.
Carl says he wants Liam next to face IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin for a big payday before he retires. However, Eubank Jr. is making noise because he wants an immediate rematch, so Smith needs to take care of that before he can attempt to set up a fight with either Golovkin or Kell Brook.
Froch had his own take on what was happening in the ring, saying that Liam (33-3-1, 20 KOs) had dominated three of the four rounds, which paints a different picture than what actually happened.
In reality, Eubank Jr. defeated Smith in the first three rounds and then got lax in the fourth, choosing to return to the corner. If Eubank hadn’t cornered to become a sitting duck, he might have continued to dominate and eventually KO Smith.
“Was it an incredible performance or was it a whoop, an obliteration?” Carl Froch told iFL TV of Liam Smith’s win over Chris Eubank Jr. “It was four rounds. He won the first two rounds and then probably lost the third round because Eubank landed behind his jab and then he started warming up and going into range.
“He ducked Eubanks low, sat back and made him look like he didn’t know what he was doing and hit him with a couple of clean, crisp shots and finished him off. It was very surprising.
“One has to wonder why Eubank wasn’t able to absorb the punches from Liam because he was able to absorb the punches from bigger and stronger men like George Groves and I in sparring. So it was surprising.
“You have to wonder if he’s dehydrated and put on a lot of weight, but that takes away from Liam Smith’s fantastic performance, which I don’t want to do because it was a one-sided whooping cough, doesn’t it?
“This is a massive loss. If you lose like that, you have to take it by the chin. I don’t think he underestimated Liam. I think he knew he was in a fight.
“I don’t know. I’d be surprised if he does,” Froch said when asked if Eubank Jr. would make the rematch with Smith. “He just collapsed under the pressure and withered. He got hit in the chin , and then he was gone.
“I don’t know what he’s doing differently at 160. I would like to see him [Liam] in a big money fight and see him retire because he’s at the end of his career. That was great for him. That was on Sky Box Office which is brilliant.
“I think get a big payday for Liam Smith, get a big payday and then retire. It was a great win. The Golovkin fight has to be a big money fight but I don’t want him to get hurt and I think Golovkin would hurt him. That’s the last thing that goes, the clout,” said Froch.
