COP15: Daily highlights – December 16, 2022

MONTREAL, December 16, 2022 /CNW/ –

THE THOUGHT OF THE MINISTER OF THE DAY

“The whole world is watching and hoping that we can achieve an ambitious global biodiversity framework COP15. More and more countries are joining our call to work together to protect 30 percent of the world’s land and water by 2030. Halting and reversing biodiversity loss requires nothing less. 30 times 30 must be our 1.5 degrees. At the same time, ambitious countries must back this up with funding, and those countries that want the funding must commit to ambitious conservation goals. Today, Canada strengthened with new support for developing countries, raising our total $1.5 billion. I am confident that we will make it.”

The Honorable Steven Guilbeault, Secretary of State for Environment and Climate Change

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Right in here now Montreal, we have a unique opportunity. And a responsibility to agree globally on actions to put the world on the path to recovery this decade. To reconcile our lives, our economies, our businesses, our politics with the natural world on which we depend.”

The Right Honorable, Lord Goldsmith, Secretary of State for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment, Great Britain
