The hugely popular Gossip Girl reboot series is back for its second season, but fans are wondering if it will be renewed or cancelled. Since the show’s return in 2020, it has garnered a huge following from viewers around the world. As such, there is much speculation as to whether there will be a green light for another season. Gossip Girl’s comeback won’t last beyond the current second season. HBO Max has decided not to renew the revival for a third season, with the season 2 finale on January 26 being the series finale.

Showrunner Joshua Safran took to social media Thursday to announce that GOSSIP GIRL will not be renewed for a second season on HBO Max. he continued

“We are currently looking for another home but in this climate that could prove to be an uphill climb [battle], and if this is the end, at least we’ve gone out with the highest treble. Thanks for watching and I hope you tune in to the finals next Thursday to see how it all comes together.”

All about Gossip Girl

The original Gossip Girl series ran on the CW from 2007 to 2012 and was produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar. It chronicled the inner workings of a top New York private school and produced several stars, including Blake Lively and Penn Badgley.

Saffron’s revival premiered on HBO Max in 2021 with an all-new cast, while Kristen Bell reprized her role as the eponymous narrator. The new Gossip Girl differs from the previous version in several ways. Rather than keep Gossip Girl’s identity a secret, the new show revealed teachers at the posh high school wrote the blogs.

The termination of Gossip Girl comes as part of a spate of cancellations, cancellations of renewals and writedowns at Warner Bros. Discovery, the company formed by the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. in April. The second season finale, likely the conclusion of the series, will air on HBO Max in January.
