A big night from Brett Brochu leads London to win over Owen Sound – London

Brett Brochu made 38 saves as the London Knights defeated the Owen Sound Attack 5-2 at Budweiser Gardens on Friday night.

The Knights scored four goals in the opening period on their way to their 15th win in 17 games dating back to November 5.

Ruslan Gazizov scored two of the five goals for London. Max McCue had two assists and now has five assists in his last two games. George Diaco also had two assists for the Knights, and Sean McGurn also had a goal and an assist.

McGurn opened a shorthanded breakaway with his 12th of the season. Landon Sim spun to score his ninth goal of the year just over five minutes later and Ruslan Gazizov scored his eighth goal on a power play, adding the year’s number nine seconds after a London lead ended.

Oliver Bonk added a fifth goal for London short-handed in the second half but Brochu was the big story at the other end of the ice with 18 saves.

The attack eventually untied Brochu as they scored two goals within eight seconds in the third period, but the Knights’ passed keeper closed the door the rest of the way. That ended Brochu’s streak of shutouts after 123 minutes and 51 seconds.

Brochu saved his best stop for Owen Sound sniper Colby Barlow when Barlow connected with a one-timer on an attack power play in the third period. Brochu hit Spread-Eagle and grabbed the puck out of the air with his glove.

The win for Brochu put him at 75 with Tyler Parsons for the third time in Knights history.

The win was also London’s 20th of the season. They edged the Saginaw Spirit to within a point for the top spot in the Western Conference. London has the best win rate in the West.
