Miners, Cavies step outside SCC for girls basketball wins

The Gillespie Miners didn’t let Saturday’s loss in Calhoun start a losing streak.
The Miners rebounded from the result in Hardin two days earlier and beat the Bunker Hill Minutemaids 57-28 in a nonconference girls basketball game in Gillespie Monday night. The Miners have won five of their last six games, going 8-6. Housekeeping is 1-10.
Gillespie doubled Bunker Hill 30-15 at halftime and went into the fourth quarter 48-23. Heaven Wilkinson scored 10 points to lead the Minutemaids.
Lauren Bertagnolli made two 3-pointers in the first half and finished on 14 points to level with teammate Emily Schoen’s 14 points, which was a game-high for Gillespie. Mia Brawner had 10 points, Rebecca Crays had nine points and Delaney Taylor added six points for the Miners.
Carlinville 54, Raymond Lincolnwood 26 – The Cavaliers landed an early knockout with an 18-2 in the first quarter and beat the Lancers in Raymond. Both teams are 4-8. It was the Cavies’ third straight win after a 1-7 start.
Carlinville, which made 17 of 24 free throws, was led with 16 points by Isabella Tiburzi, 13 points by Jordyn Loveless, 10 points by Hannah Gibson, nine points on three 3-pointers by Braley Wiser, and six points by Kaitlyn Reels. Lincolnwood received six points each from Lilly Terneus and Avery Pope.
Collinsville 53, Marquette Catholic 27 – The Kahoks continued their hot streak by defeating the Explorers at Fletcher Gym in Collinsville. The Kahoks have won seven of eight games to go 8-4. Marquette has lost four of five to 6-6.
The Explorers, trailing 19-8 after a quarter and 32-14 at halftime, picked up nine points from Haley Rodgers, eight points from Nia Ballinger, six points from Payton Patterson and seven rebounds from Olivia Kratschmer. Marquette shot 21 percent (10 of 48) from the field, including 2 of 21 from 3-point range.
Pawnee 49, North Greene 20 – The Indians led 18-12 at halftime and used a 15-4 in the third quarter to knock out the Spartans at White Hall. Pawnee, who received 12 points from Maya Rodriguez, is 3-10. Freshman Chelsey Castleberry scored nine points for 0-10 North Greene.
Waterloo 58, Jersey 38 – The Bulldogs extended their lead from 16-11 after a quarter and 31-21 at halftime to beat the Panthers in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Havens Gym in Jerseyville. Waterloo is 7-5 and 3-2 in the MVC. Jersey is 7-7 and 0-5 in the valley to extend its conference losing streak to 18 straight.
Liv Colson had 19 points and nine rebounds, Norah Gum had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Sam Lindhorst had eight points, nine assists and four steals for the Bulldogs.

Jordan Holten scored 14 points while Karsen Jany and Ava Langhans both scored 13 points for Columbia. Jany hit a double-double with 10 rebounds.
