Who is Toni-Ann Singh? – CNW Network

On December 18th, starving fans at Jamaica’s National Stadium enjoyed the show of a lifetime on the final leg of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy’s Love, Damini Tour. Rising star Lila Iké opened the event with her unique voice and flow, giving the show its name. Dancehall icon Popcaan sang the hits and fueled the crowd in anticipation of the main event. However, attendees were surprised to hear not only the Burna Boy track featuring Popcaan, “Toni-Ann Singh”, but also a performance by Toni-Ann Singh himself.

Singh & Popcan Chemistry

Singh was introduced by her alleged partner, Popcaan, to perform their track “Next To Me” together. This was Singh’s stage debut as a performing artist, but if there were any jitters, she hid them perfectly. Singh commanded the stage – bouncing around effortlessly, hitting her notes perfectly and at one point even directing the audience to sing by pointing the mic at the crowd. Singh and Popcaan had incredible chemistry and seemingly just sang to each other as if thousands of guests weren’t watching live in person.

Former Miss World

While Singh’s stage presence may have surprised concert-goers, her talent with a microphone was never in question. The former Miss World and longest-serving singer wowed the judges in 2019 with her thoughtful answers and incredible singing talent. When asked by Judge Piers Morgan why she deserved the crown, she gave this bombastic answer: “I think I represent something special; a generation of women pushing forward to change the world. I wouldn’t say I’m any different from other women on this stage, but my passion for women and my inflow into them and making sure they have the same opportunities that I do is something that sets me apart.” For her Talent honored one of the greatest actresses of all time, Whitney Houston, with a perfect rendition of the classic “I Have Nothing.” Her performance was so soulful that after winning the crown, she recorded her own cover and became the first winner to record a song to raise funds for Miss World Organization’s charitable arm, Beauty With a Purpose.

The question now – is this flirtation with the performing arts a one-time thing? In response to the Gleaner, Singh is frustratingly vague. “A little girl from St. Thomas became Miss World, so if I can stand by anything it’s that dreams are real and can come true. If that [a recording career] should be the case for me in this life, I am open to that.”
