Meghan Markle’s Nicknames for Prince Harry, Explained
In case you, like the rest of the world, are tuning in to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix docuseries, you *might* have questions like: How exactly will the next three episodes delve into “Megxit”? Are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex really not being welcomed back to England because of the document? and Can we please talk about the nicknames Meghan and Harry use for each other?
Well, those first two questions are a huge “TBD,” but we can certainly address all of the nicknames Harry and Meghan use throughout the series — and yes, that includes Haz.
Let’s talk about “H” first
in the Harry & Meganthe Duchess of Sussex repeatedly refers to her husband as “H”, although she recalls, “I met H when I was in London for Wimbledon.” It’s very cute and hardly the first time she’s slipped the nickname. In fact, she first revealed the following in her 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey: “I said to H for a long time – that’s what I call him. It’s not enough just to survive, is it? That’s not the meaning of life. You have to thrive, you have to feel happy.”
Aaaaa and there’s also “Haz”
Meghan also reveals in the Netflix docuseries that she saved Prince Harry’s contact name on her phone as Prince Haz, which apparently the mutual friend who introduced her also calls Harry.
Side note: Apparently, Harry aka H aka Haz was late for his and Meghan’s first date (!!), which the former actor really liked Not into it, but, as the king put it, “I was panicking. I was freaking out, I was sweating.” Still, the two obviously ended up having a great time. “He was just so much fun,” Meghan recalled. “Just so refreshingly funny, and that was the thing, we were like a kid together.” And the rest is history!
One of the first times that Haz was revealed as one of the Duke’s nicknames was on Thursday February 25th’s episode The Late Late Show with James Corden, in which Harry and James took a bus tour of Los Angeles. During the tour they stopped at the original home the fresh prince of bel air and she FaceTimed Meghan to jokingly ask if she wanted to live there. Before admitting she thinks her family has “moved enough,” the Duchess asked her husband, “Haz, how’s your tour of LA going?” “Haz?” Corden said. “I didn’t realize we were calling you ‘Haz’ now.” Harry then slammed the comedian with, “You’re not my wife.” Tou-ché!
Harry calls Meghan “M”
During the same episode of The Late Late Show, James asked Harry, “How do I find the Duchess?” while scrolling through the contacts of the king. We then get a glimpse of Harry’s nickname for Meghan as the Duke of Sussex tells him to look for ‘M’. in the Harry & MeganHarry recalls at one point that “M flew in from Toronto for the weekend.”
By the way, Harry and Meghan aren’t even their real names
Yes, you read that correctly. To make things even more?!?!?!?, the Duke and Duchess don’t even formally go by their legal names (which are Henry and Rachel, respectively). Per HITC, “When Diana and Charles’ son was born, the palace said he would be officially known as Prince Henry Charles Albert David, but only as Harry in the family.” As for Meghan? Her full name is actually – wait for it! – Rachel Meghan Markle.
