Wascana Lake ice skating rink officially open for 2023

Winter is here and it’s here to stay, and as Canadians know, one of the best ways to celebrate is to lace up your skates.

The Ice Rink at Wascana Lake is officially open and ready for you to hit the ice.

Ice skating is free across from the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m

“It’s a really great pastime for people, a great hobby, a great source of exercise, so we encourage everyone to come down and carry on the tradition,” said Jenna Schroeder, executive director of the Provincial Capital Commission.

“Bring small children, adults and even people who have been skating for many decades. Everyone is welcome to come down and use the facility here.”

The rink is equipped with lighting, as well as on-site washrooms and warming stations to keep people comfortable while skating or just watching.

“The ice rink at Wascana offers the perfect opportunity to have fun and be active this winter season,” said Provincial Capital Commission Minister Don McMorris. “It’s a unique skating experience for everyone.”

The rink will also act as the heart of the Wascana hub for Frost Regina, taking place February 3-12, 2023.

In addition to events and programs on the ice rink, there will again be dog sled rides, horse-drawn sleigh rides and the Hockey Night on Wascana with young athletes from the Outdoor Hockey League this year.

The rink will be open until the end of February, weather permitting.
