Take a trip on a Boston Duck Tour with the Foxboro Senior Center | Around Town

Join us Thursday, June 15 at 8:30am as we travel by coach to experience Boston like never before on a Boston Duck Tour. We depart from the Prudential Center for an 80-minute Boston tour. The Boston “Ducks” are amphibious World War II vehicles that travel on land and sea. On our narrated tour, we’ll see many of Boston’s famous sights and even take a dip in the Charles River for a view of the skyline. After the tour, we’ll enjoy a family-style lunch at one of Boston’s most popular restaurants, Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant. After lunch we stop at the Prudential Center for some free time before heading home. The cost is $139 for Foxboro residents and $144 for non-residents. Registration for Foxboro residents with payment begins February 9 and registration for non-residents with payment begins February 10.

MEET FOXBOROUGH’S NEW HR DIRECTOR

The City of Foxboro recently hired Liz Bluetow as its full-time human resources director. Liz has over 17 years of human resources experience in both the private and public sectors. Most recently she was Head of Human Resources for the Plymouth Borough of DA Office and Disability Protection Committee. Join us on Wednesday, February 8th from 2:45pm – 3:15pm to meet Liz. She will visit the Foxboro Senior Center to learn more about the community she serves so she is always on the lookout for potential future employees who can benefit Foxboro residents.

On Monday, March 20th at 11am seniors are invited to watch an episode of Neftlix’s Chef’s Table at the new Shovel Town Brewery “Station One” in the former Foxboro Fire Station. Shovel Town has graciously offered to provide pizza for 50 senior citizens. Registration for this event begins on February 6 at 12 noon

LUNCH EXCURSION

Our next lunchtime outing will be on Wednesday February 15th at 1pm at Conrad’s Restaurant. Call us to register by Monday 13th February and meet us at the restaurant on 21st February. For those requiring van transport, arrangements must be made by Monday 13th.

“ARCHITECTURAL GREATNESS OF ROME”

Rome has existed for almost 3000 years. From its ancient glory as the center of empire, to its rise as the seat of Western Christianity, to its modern role as the capital of Italy, Rome has been built and rebuilt. Join us on Wednesday February 15th at 4pm when history lecturer Paolo DiGregorio will be at the Senior Center to examine Rome’s historical and architectural heritage. Register in advance to reserve your spot.

MAKE MUSIC

Calling all musicians and singers, bring your ukulele, guitar, voice or other acoustic instrument and join us on February 6 at 1:00 p.m. and the first Monday of each following month at 1:00 p.m. for our Making Music ‘ program encourages and welcomes you to participate in this monthly FREE sing-along and play-along experience. We will explore funny and well-known songs. Sign up in advance to let us know you’ll be joining us.

FRIEND BINGO – BRING A FRIEND

Visit us on Tuesday, February 7th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and every 1st Tuesday of the month for bingo in the senior center. Win cash prizes of different amounts. There is a small fee of $1 per card. Bring a friend! Call to register. This program is hosted by the Friends of Foxboro Seniors.

GARDEN CLUB TABLETOP

From Tuesday, February 7 at 10:45 am; our Table Top Garden Club led by Marsha Lewicke will meet again. Everyone is welcome, no prior gardening experience is required. Sign in to let us know you’re going to join us.

HUMAN – THE INNER WORLD

Join us Tuesday mornings at 9:30am on February 7th for Netflix’s 6-part documentaries about the incredible workings of the human body. Cutting-edge science and compelling personal stories collide in this insightful series. CARD MAKING COURSE

are you a smart person Are you interested in learning a new skill? Helen Rice hosts her famous card making class at the Senior Center on Thursday February 9th at 2pm and every 2nd Thursday of the month. All materials are included and at the end of the course you will have a beautiful handmade card for a future event! Please log in to let us know that you will be joining us.

ADIRONDACK BALLOON FESTIVAL

Join us on a journey to the glorious Adirondacks to see one of the country’s largest balloon festivals on September 22-24, 2023. Our first stop is the resort town of racing and elegance – Saratoga Springs where we will have some free time for lunch and shopping followed by a city tour. We will spend 2 nights at Fairfield by Marriott Hotel. In the late afternoon we drive to the festival to see the launch of over 50 hot air balloons including special shapes. Dinner takes place in the Queensbury Hotel’s Grand Ballroom.

On the second day we are up early for another balloon launch. We cruise Lake George, have lunch on the shore and return to the festival for another balloon launch followed by the MoonGlow balloon launch. On Day 3 we get up early for another balloon launch followed by breakfast. Afterwards we return to Lake George to enjoy some free time and have lunch on our own before heading home.

The cost of this trip is $853 per person (double), $1,222 per person (single) and $753 per person (triple). The cost includes transportation, tours, 2 nights accommodation, 4 meals (2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 1 dinner), Lake George cruise, 5 different launches of different balloon shapes, baggage handling (1 piece), all taxes and gratuities and the Trip Protection Plan -Insurance. Girl Scout Concert & Cookies

On Wednesday, February 8th at 3:30pm, the Foxboro Fourth Grade Burrell Girl Scout Troop is excited to host a patriotic concert of American songs for us at the Senior Center! The girls will then welcome seniors for cookies and discussions. The girls look forward to meeting everyone and having a fun intergenerational program. Register in advance and take part in this special program.

ITALY MEET & GREET

We are almost two months away from our Spring 2023 trip to Italy. On Thursday February 9th at 2:00pm we invite all of our Italy travelers to enjoy some cannoli and meet your fellow travelers in a fun environment at the Senior Center. Register and we will reserve a place for you.

STRENGTH AND CONDITION II

Join Steve Avellino’s next 6-week program, Strength and Conditioning II, Monday at 11:45 am at the Senior Center. This program is designed to help with balance, posture and pain relief with a focus on restoring movement integrity. The program will be moderated by Steve Avellino EFT, CES, SSF, SSN and classes will be held on the following Mondays: February 6th, 13th, 27th, March 6th, 13th and 20th. The cost is $42 per person and should be paid for when registering for the course.

JOURNEY TO NEWPORT PLAYHOUSE IN 2023

Join us as we return to the Newport Playhouse on April 27, 2023. We will be traveling by coach, departing from the St. Mary’s car park at 58 Carpenter Street at 9:45am. This popular excursion spot includes an extensive lunch buffet that includes a wide variety of hot and cold dishes, main courses, side dishes, drinks and homemade desserts. After lunch we all watch a comedic play in the theater of the playhouse and end our day with an entertaining cabaret performance. BEST OF PROVIDENCE TOUR

We will embark on our Best of Providence trip to Providence, RI on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Traveling by coach, we begin our morning with a visit to Scialo’s Bakery where we will enjoy coffee, treats and a bit of history at Providence’s most famous bakery. Afterwards we enjoy lunch at Cassarino’s Ristorante and then enjoy a 90 minute guided tour of Providence. The cost is $117 per person for Foxboro residents and $122 for non-residents. The February Movie Days theme is actor Harrison Ford. Films will be shown at 1pm on the following Thursdays:

February 9 – “Air Force One” When terrorists hijack Air Force One with the President and his family on board, the Supreme Commander takes matters into his own hands.

February 16 – “The Call of the Wild” Based on Jack London’s classic story about Buck, the dog who was kidnapped from his home in California, and a Yukon prospector who discovers and connects with him.

LEAH’S ART POINT

Join Leah Snow at the Senior Center as she embarks on a journey of art and creation.

Leah’s classes meet at 2pm on the following Wednesdays and each class will include all materials and tutorials as you create something new for your home: February 8th – Wine Bottle Creations (please bring your own wine bottle); February 15 – Shell painting and; February 22 – Rock painting. Please register in advance for any or all courses you may be interested in.
