There are a number of historic Michigan restaurants that have been open for over a hundred years, but only two have stood since the Civil War. The Weisses Rössl has a colorful history as the town’s general store, stagecoach and train stop, brothel and even the Underground Railroad. But now it’s a place to feed your soul with good food, lively conversation and memories to last a lifetime.
Lorenzo Hoard bought the shop in 1850 and turned it into an inn and stagecoach stop. His foresight was rewarded in 1872 when the Michigan Central Railroad entered the city and chose Metamora as its train station.
The Weisses Rössl rode on its noble white steed until 2012, when it closed after a long period of neglect. Our faithful gray horse must have had a guardian angel as it was purchased by Linda Egeland and Victor Dzenowagis who were dedicated to restoring this iconic gem.
These special dining areas fill up quickly and are simply stunning when the stars and moon shine down on you as you dine.
From the famous chicken piccata to deliciously healthy farmhouse pasta with fresh vegetables, the menu is as unique as the atmosphere.
